The Falcon and The Winter Soldier associate Sam Wilson with Bucky Barnes, but Anthony Mackie scoffs that Falcon wanted to split with Black Widow.
Sam Wilson will next join Bucky Barnes for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series – but Anthony Mackie scoffed that the character always wanted to split with Black widowNatasha Romanoff. Created by Stan Lee and Gene Colan, Sam debuted in 1969 Captain America # 117. Operating under the name Falcon, he was one of the first African-American superheroes in mainstream comics, emerging in the same years as Black Panther, Luke Cage, and Blade. Able to fly with the use of mechanical wings and communicate telepathically with birds, he served as a recurring presence throughout the decades, fighting alongside The Avengers and various other teams. Eventually, he assumed the mantle of Captain America.
Portrayed by Mackie, the character first appeared (without telepathic bird powers) in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He quickly became a trusted friend of Steve Rogers, helping him and Black Widow avoid capture and his subsequent battles with Hydra. He later returned to help Cap get around the Sokovia Accords in Captain America: Civil War and fight the forces of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War Y Endgame. In the wake of the latter, an aged version of Steve passed him the Captain America shield and title. Although he took it reluctantly, Sam never accepted the complicated legacy. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has been confirmed to explore what happened next, with him taking on a terrorist group called the Flag-Smashers, a returning Baron Zemo, and the possible consequences of John Walker being appointed the new Cap by the government.
In each of those missions, he will be joined by Steve’s other friend, Bucky Barnes. However, speaking with Term, Mackie stated that neither Cap nor Bucky would have been Sam’s first choice as derivative partners. Instead, that honor would have gone entirely to Black Widow. “He was a fan like everyone else.“stated the actor, referring to Cap and the Avengers superhero team in general.”Sam Wilson was a normal guy who had just won the lottery because Black Widow knocked on his door and he needed a place to hide.. “No doubt with his tongue firmly on his cheek, Mackie added:”He fell in love and hoped to have a spin-off with Black Widow.. “
Back in 2016, Mackie has expressed his wish for Falcon and Black Widow to team up. He even brought up the idea of appearing solo. Black widow movie long before it became official. Similarly, the actor has frequently joked (and made it part of his personal headcanon) that the pair were secretly dating between adventures. While many comic book fans would love to have seen a Black Widow and Winter Soldier romance in the MCU, there’s no denying that Sam and Natasha often had great flirty chemistry. And either option would have easily overshadowed (and worked much better than) the poorly received Hulk-Black Widow relationship that Joss Whedon devised.
Despite his death in Avengers Endgame, Natasha will belatedly getting the solo spotlight in the next Black widow. For a time, it was believed that the film would directly establish The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. However, since the Phase 4 board was reorganized, putting the show first, it remains to be seen if that still is (or ever was) the case. Either way, fans are still raving about both. And until definitively stated one way or another, both options remain fully valid. As such, given that much of Natasha’s solo outing took place in the past, there’s still a good chance that Falcon and Black Widow will engage in some solo feats together, if only for a while.
