Avatar 2 actor Stephen Lang hints that franchise antagonist Miles Quaritch will have a riveting arc in upcoming installments.
Avatar 2 The star, Stephen Lang, hints that his character Miles Quaritch has a fascinating arc in the upcoming installments. Quaritch was the villain of the original installment; A greedy military man, he stopped at nothing in an attempt to obtain Pandora’s abundant wealth of natural resources. However, the character’s future was unclear until Lang revealed that his journey with Quaritch is not only far from over, but is about to get even more interesting.
More than 11 years have passed since the original. Avatar the film was released and 11 years of wondering what will happen to Miles Quaritch. The last seen of his character was when he was stopped by Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) in an attempt to kill a vulnerable Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) while he was attached to his Avatar body in the final battle. Quaritch was allegedly killed by Neytiri after she shot him multiple times in the chest with arrows. The inevitable return of the villain to the next installments is currently unknown.
According to comingsoon.net, the 68-year-old actor promises that his character will not only make a comeback, but suffer an arc of “extreme growth “ and “regression areas“over the next four Avatar Movie (s. See Lang’s full quote below:
I’m not going to say, ‘No, it’s absolutely the same.’ I think he’s an incredibly fascinating character and I wouldn’t go back if Jim Cameron wasn’t also fascinated with him and determined to see where he goes. Where does that character take him as a writer, as a director? And where does it take me as an actor? And so, I think you can absolutely look for some areas of extreme growth in the character; and then probably areas of regression in character as well, hopefully over a period of four more movies. Of course, we need it to be very, very interesting, where, in the end, you have gone on a journey or witnessed a character go on a life journey that was quite interesting. You know, he was glad to be able to watch. So that’s what we are trying to do.
Despite the ups and downs that Quaritch will experience in his character arc, it’s fair to assume that on his initial return, fans will see him more bloodthirsty with revenge than ever. However, it’s worth noting that while many believe Quaritch will undergo a villain-to-hero arc, director James Cameron says otherwise. When filming for the sequels began in 2017, Cameron confirmed that Lang’s character will not only return, but will remain the antagonist of the franchise, saying that “There’s not a new villain every time, which is interesting. The same guy. The same son of a bitch in all four movies.”
The success of the first Avatar film, even 11 years after its release, shows that the next Avatar the aftermath has a lot to accomplish. However, the news of Quaritch’s return and his complicated character arc should ease the minds of skeptical fans. The revival of the presumed dead character will be the true sci-fi experience audiences are anticipating, and the journey that follows will leave fans loving – and hating – the iconic villain.
