By Black Adam The PG-13 rating will not detract from the self-titled antihero’s death count, according to the film’s producer. Starring Dwayne Johnson in his DCEU debut as the fearsome Black Adam, the upcoming film has promised to change the balance of power within the franchise universe forever, setting up a character strong enough to possibly rival Superman himself. Black adam It is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 29, 2022.
Because DC and Warner Bros. have begun exploring the realm of R-rated superhero stories with movies like jester Y Suicide squad, some fans expected a similar rating for Black adam. When it was announced that the film would instead only have a PG-13 rating, there were some in the fanbase who expressed disappointment that Johnson’s Black Adam would be somewhat restricted in his displays of power. However, according to those working on the film, that shouldn’t be a cause for concern.
Recently talking to Collider, Black adam Producer Hiram Garcia said the film’s PG-13 rating would not place any restrictions on the antihero’s body count, and that the film was able to achieve an unfiltered version of Black Adam without entering R territory. “There are a lot of people who can start out alive in a Black Adam movie and they may not be there at the end of the movie.” Garcia said, promising a wild ride for Johnson’s character. “This will be PG-13, but it is not because we are required to be PG-13. The way we designed the movie, it just didn’t need to be turned into R, and it’s something we discussed because we wanted to be true to the character. The truth is that we felt we were able to adequately represent the advantage and power that Black Adam has without needing to go down to an R rating. This movie can thrive in a PG-13 space and that’s great for us because we want to introduce Back Adam to as many people as possible.
“No one felt that The Dark Knight was too soft. That was probably one of the toughest PG-13s you’ve ever seen. That’s the way we’ve approached our PG-13, and in no way has that rating limited our kill count! “
Of course, the appeal of doing Black adam accessible to younger viewers is also undeniable for a massive studio like Warner Bros. Johnson has become one of the biggest and most popular stars in the world in recent years, and Black adam it could become their biggest vehicle yet if it comes out as fans expect. From the outside, the film seems like a perfect combination of character and actor, and given Johnson’s appeal with all the different demographics, eliminating anyone under the age of 17 would be a huge hit for the movie’s box office potential.
That’s an even bigger consideration when looking at the recent past of the DCEU. The franchise has had more mistakes than hits since it started with Iron Man, and while things have been on an upward trend lately, DC still seems to be trying to find its balance. Many of the stars who started the franchise have left and dispersed into disconnected solo films, leaving no clear foundation to tie it all together. Johnson is the kind of star that could potentially put the DCEU on his back, but that will depend on the answer to Black adam.
