However, in a recent interview with Screen Rant, Bautista opened up about graduating from acting to lead. The former bodybuilder explains that his wrestling experience has taught him to be a diligent student of the experts around him, dedicating his time throughout his acting career, actively learning from the best in the business, and feeling comfortable with the filming process. Now, Bautista could see himself directing great movies and becoming the “world champion. “In addition, he points out that, contrary to what many would assume, he does not want to make great action epics, but more intimate dramatic films. Read what Bautista said below:

Dave Bautista: Yes, absolutely. I feel that. At this point in my career, I’m sure I could direct a movie. I have goals and I don’t want to make great epic movies. I want to make very contained, dramatic and inspiring films. That is always what I have wanted to do. But now I feel confident that I have learned enough and know enough about the process.

Obviously, I don’t know all the technical aspects. But I’m sure I could sit in a director’s chair right now, and if I had a solid script and a solid cast, I could make an amazing movie. I think I’m at that point where I just learned from the best; I’ve absorbed it. I have been a student.

And the same thing happened in wrestling. I learned from the best, I chose their brain, and I took advantage of those guys in a way that a lot of people are missing. I wanted to learn things; I wanted to learn the process of professional wrestling and why it was an art. It’s the same with movies and I’ve done the same. And I feel like, right now, if I had the chance, I could be a world champion.

On Knives out 2, which will premiere on Netflix, Bautista will star opposite Daniel Craig, who reprises his role as astute detective Benoit Blanc and newly cast Edward Norton.

Bautista’s ambitions match those of most high-profile Hollywood actors who have gone on to direct their own projects. It shines in a variety of science fiction works such as Blade Runner 2049 to comedy like My spy, which makes him a great candidate to direct a number of different films. As Bautista himself says, a large part of his success would be in, first, having the opportunity, and second, finding a great script and gathering a great cast. But, if anyone can do it, Drax the Destroyer can do it.
