Read what Bautista said below:
Dave Bautista: Yes, absolutely. I feel that. At this point in my career, I’m sure I could direct a movie. I have goals and I don’t want to make great epic movies. I want to make very contained, dramatic and inspiring films. That is always what I have wanted to do. But now I feel confident that I have learned enough and know enough about the process.
Obviously, I don’t know all the technical aspects. But I’m sure I could sit in a director’s chair right now, and if I had a solid script and a solid cast, I could make an amazing movie. I think I’m at that point where I just learned from the best; I’ve absorbed it. I have been a student.
And the same thing happened in wrestling. I learned from the best, I chose their brain, and I took advantage of those guys in a way that a lot of people are missing. I wanted to learn things; I wanted to learn the process of professional wrestling and why it was an art. It’s the same with movies and I’ve done the same. And I feel like, right now, if I had the chance, I could be a world champion.
Meanwhile, Bautista has continued to advance his acting career with various roles, including his beloved role as Drax in the MCU, which is about to come to an end. He announced that after the upcoming third installment of the franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is retiring the character of Drax. On Knives out 2, which will premiere on Netflix, Bautista will star opposite Daniel Craig, who reprises his role as astute detective Benoit Blanc and newly cast Edward Norton.
Bautista’s ambitions match those of most high-profile Hollywood actors who have gone on to direct their own projects. It shines in a variety of science fiction works such as Blade Runner 2049 to comedy like My spy, which makes him a great candidate to direct a number of different films. As Bautista himself says, a large part of his success would be in, first, having the opportunity, and second, finding a great script and gathering a great cast. But, if anyone can do it, Drax the Destroyer can do it.
