Dave Bautista thinks Marvel dropped the ball with the backstory for his Guardians of the Galaxy character Drax the Destroyer. Bautista has appeared in four MCU movies so far, including both Guardians movies and Avengers: Infinity War Y Endgame. With a more scheduled appearance, Bautista has hinted that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 it will be Drax’s last, something director James Gunn has said he would support.
Most casual MCU fans may know Drax as the comic relief in Guardians of the Galaxy and during his appearances in Infinity war Y Game over but its backstory is just as interesting. Briefly touched on in the aforementioned films, fans learn that Drax’s family is one of the many victims of Thanos. In fact, Drax even gets a chance to confront Thanos in Infinity war before the Titan subdues him while using the Reality Stone. Unfortunately, this is the closest Drax gets to revenge before that emotional story is left on the cutting room floor.

Bautista sees this as a missed opportunity, as he explains to Collider who believes Marvel missed out on exploring Drax’s emotional side. While the actor appreciates everything the role did for his career, he says he would have liked the opportunity to explore his character’s backstory in a way that lends itself to a satisfying arc. Bautista doesn’t think the opportunity to explore his character in this way will arise again, but he’s excited to end Drax’s story in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 However.
That role changed the trajectory of my life. It will always be special to me. Now that I have four movies in … I really wish they had invested more in Drax, personally. Because I think Drax has more of a story to tell. I think Drax has a really interesting backstory where they dropped the ball. That’s not an excavation at Marvel. They had their list, I know what they’re focused on, that’s what they’ve planned. But man, I think they really missed Drax. It has a great backstory. Selfishly, as a performer, that would have given me the opportunity to show different sides of Drax, emotionally. And physically too. Because if you look at Drax, even though he looks like a badass, you look at him and he looks scary, but Drax gets his butt kicked more than any other Marvel character … The whole “Destroyer” thing, they just scrapped it . the window … people just fell so in love with Drax’s comedic side that they took advantage of that, then they played more, then they really dug a hole in him. But we lost a big pot to that character and I don’t think he will appear again. But I am really looking forward to finishing this whole journey.
Bautista is not wrong in his claims: Drax’s story would have been perfect to explore during the culmination of the Infinity saga. Unfortunately, the pitfalls of such a massive franchise mean that characters like Drax eventually fall on the road serving the bigger story. Marvel didn’t necessarily make a mistake exploring Gamora and Nebula’s relationship with Thanos, as their connection to the Titan is much more prominent than Drax’s, but it does show that such an expansive cast can ultimately lead to them being left behind. out of fundamental emotional plots.
Fortunately, as Bautista says, Drax’s story is not over yet and neither is the actor’s. In fact, Bautista is just beginning to really get the recognition he deserves. As well as his lead role in the upcoming Zack Snyder movie. Army of the dead, Baptist has just been elected Knives out 2 with Daniel Craig and Edward Norton. It is clear that Guardians of the Galaxy And the character of Drax will always have a special place in Bautista’s heart, but thankfully, that role seems to have given the actor more opportunities.
