Dave Bautista trained with the Navy SEALs to prepare for his role in Army of the dead. The film marks director Zack Snyder’s first post-DCEU project since 2011. Sucker Punch and his return to the zombie genre more than 15 years after his directorial debut Dawn of the Dead, a remake of the George A. Romero classic. The film, starring Bautista, is expected to be the start of a larger zombie franchise for Snyder, including an animated series titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas and a live action prequel titled Army of thieves.
Bautista began his WWE career under the name Batista and became a six-time world champion. After one last run in 2018-2019, Bautista says that he is now retired from professional wrestling for good, as he is now in the midst of a fruitful film career. Bautista began acting in 2006 with her first major action roles in 2012 and 2013 with The man with the iron fists Y Riddick respectively. A year later, Bautista landed a career-defining role as Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy and has portrayed it in the MCU ever since.
During the part “Spotlight on Dave Bautista” by Zack Snyder’s Justice With, the actor talked about his next big role in Army of the dead. When asked what kind of training he did for the film, Bautista revealed that he trained with the Navy SEALs to prepare for his role as Scott Ward:
I train physically all the time. I have practiced martial arts for too many years, more years than I can remember, but we trained with a couple of ex-Navy SEALs. I wish I had their names out of my head, but I can’t think of them … We did some firearms training with a couple of Navy SEALs. It was very interesting because I learned a lot. I’m more of a hobbyist when it comes to guns, but we also learned a lot about firearm safety, so it was interesting to get that kind of education from a different point of view.
Bautista has made numerous headlines for his virtual appearance on Justice Con, including his express desire to play the DC characters Lobo and Bane in the film. Bautista even shared a story about how he broke into Warner Bros. and demanded that he play Bane. During Justice Con, Bautista also talked about how Army of the dead it’s a layered movie that’s “head and shoulders above your basic zombie apocalypse movie. “
On Army of the deadBautista’s Scott Ward is a member of a motley crew of mercenaries attempting a $ 200 million heist in a vault below the Las Vegas Strip. So far, everything seems to indicate that Bautista’s mercenary team is a group of expert zombie killers who are much better trained than those featured in Dawn of the Dead.
