From Disney Disenchanted Production has begun as the studio confirms the full cast. Amy Adams starred in the original 2007 film Haunted as Giselle, a princess-in-waiting destined to marry James Marsden’s Prince Edward. However, on her wedding day, Giselle accidentally leaves the kingdom of Andalasia and ends up in present-day New York City, where she must consider her fairytale sensibilities with hectic life in the city. A classic fish out of water story, Haunted garnered critical acclaim on its release on its way to garnering three Best Original Song nominations at the Academy Awards.

Although progress on the sequel had stalled, Disney surprised everyone on its 2020 Investor Day call and announced that the sequel was officially in the works. Disenchanted will go straight to Disney + sometime in 2022 and herald the return of original stars Adams, Marsden, Idina Menzel, and Patrick Dempsey. Maya Rudolph was also announced as part of the film’s cast in a villain role. Yvette Nicole Brown and Jayma Mays also reportedly joined the cast.
Now, after director Adam Shankman teased the exciting news to come this week, Disney has announced that Disenchanted has officially started filming. The studio confirmed the cast along with a sweet video announcing the addition of newcomer Gabriella Baldacchino as the adult daughter of Dempsey’s character. Nancy Tremaine, Oscar Nunez and Kolton Stewart will also star, and production will take place in Ireland ahead of the film’s 2022 debut.
With filming on Disenchanted Taking place throughout the summer, the film looks set for a late spring or early summer debut on Disney +. While all eyes have been on the streamer’s exciting roster of Marvel content, the studio is also looking to develop its library beyond the comic book franchise. Disenchanted is the perfect movie to do that, from its star-studded cast to its classic Disney feel. If the music in the sequel is half as catchy as Hauntedoriginal songs, there will be many earworms to come.
Even with all the new songs that supposedly come with DisenchantedIt’s hard to say what the most exciting part of the sequel is. Since the original 2007 film, Adams’ career has exploded as the actress receives praise for each and every role she takes on. Seeing her reunite with the original cast is sure to please fans of the original movie and appeal to newcomers. Similarly, seeing Maya Rudolph take on the role of a Disney villain will be a treat for fans of the actress when Disenchanted It is finally released and all signs point to this sequel being as successful as the first.
