Eternals’ Kumail Nanjiani Suggests A Kingo & Shang-Chi Team-Up

Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani indicates that he wants his Marvel character Kingo to team up with Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi sometime in the near future.

Kumail Nanjiani, star of Marvel Studios’ Eternal, wants to see his character, Kingo, fight alongside Simu Liu’s MCU character, Shang-Chi. Eternal It is the latest Marvel film to be released and it comes from Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao. Despite its star-studded cast and ambitious premise, the film quickly became the most divisive film in the entire MCU franchise. Zhao’s film has been the subject of a wide variety of criticism: some are genuine (such as those who felt that Zhao’s author sensibilities clashed with the MCU’s blockbuster feel) while others are more in bad faith (such as those who didn’t like the inclusion of the gay character movie).

Thankfully, the cast and crew of the film have taken the criticism in stride, celebrating the film for introducing many innovations for the now 13-year-old franchise. Next Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings, which launched earlier this year, Eternal is the second MCU film to feature Asian actors (Gemma Chan, Don Lee, and Nanjiani himself) in prominent hero roles. With Disney + Mrs. Marvel series that will feature the titular Pakistani-American hero sometime next year, Asian representation in the MCU is at an all-time high.

Now that Kingo has finally made his screen debut, Nanjiani seems interested in linking his character with his other Asian MCU co-stars. In response to Liu’s recent praise for EternalNanjiani tweeted, “Thank you friend. Kingo, will Shang Chi join you?” Check out the actor’s tweet below:

Although Nanjiani’s tweet was probably a joke, it is quite possible that a team will be formed between Kingo and Shang-Chi. Some speculated that Shang-chi The post-credits scene, which establishes the mystical Ten Rings as a kind of intergalactic beacon, may have ties to the Eternals and their heavenly masters. Although no such connection was made in Zhao’s film, it is possible that this will become a prominent plot point in the future, especially considering the writers’ decision to keep Eternal relatively isolated from the rest of the MCU. The scriptwriters of the film sought to delay the meeting between the Eternals and the Avengers so that their first meeting could carry more weight in the future; perhaps Shang-Chi will be a full-blown Avenger when such a reunion is possible.

At the moment, it is difficult to predict where and when such a crossover might take place. If it really comes to fruition, hopefully the payoff will be as satisfying as the first meeting of the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers in Avengers: infinity war. Until then, Eternal it will remain isolated in its own distinctive corner of the larger Marvel universe.
