Salma Hayek, star of upcoming MCU 26th movie Eternal has commented on the stress that comes with the sheer amount of secrecy on paper. First announced in 2018, Marvel’s Eternal is configured to be run by Nomadland’s Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao. Centered on a race of immortal secrets that have been hidden on Earth for 7,000 years, they gather to protect humanity from their evil counterparts, the Deviants.
With an all-star cast that includes Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Gemma Chan, Lauren Ridloff, Don Lee, and Kit Harrington, Hayek is slated to play the role of the Eternal’s spiritual leader, Ajak. Originally created as a male character by Marvel legend Jack Kirby, Ajak can manipulate cosmic energy to heal and has the ability to communicate with the Celestials, the first sentient beings in the universe who were introduced to the MCU in Guardians of the Galaxy. Originally announced for a late 2020 release, Eternal It is now scheduled for a premiere on November 5.

While talking to USA Today about his next movie, The bodyguard of the hitman’s wifeIn which she stars with Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds, Hayek also spoke about the tensions that come with Marvel’s strict secrecy requirements. Explaining that he signed on to the project without even reading the script, he said that “It was really stressful. It’s like marrying a boy who never met.“ While he wasn’t able to say much about the movie’s plot, he was also able to explain the issues he also had with his character’s elaborate headdress. Read what Hayek said below:
It’s a nightmare aaahhhh. You have to drive to these places and the helmet does not fit in the car. So you have to do yoga to get out and get in the car. And everyone keeps the helmet as if it were a special jewel. People walk behind you. It is not easy to put it on. Your head hurts.
With the Marvel Cinematic Universe dominating the box office and generating billions in revenue, it’s not surprising that Kevin Feige and the folks at Marvel Studios take seriously the idea of having the story details of their upcoming projects tightly closed. Being able to keep your lips tight is an important skill for any MCU star, and one of the Spider-Man: No Way Home The star, Tom Holland, has had some struggles with audiences over the years. While Hayek seems to have run into his own problems with the need for secrecy, at least he hasn’t blurted out any potential spoilers.
With the first 3 phases of the MCU now canonically referred to as The infinite saga, the new Phase 4 content marks a major renaissance for the brand, which will now be looking to move into new territory after losing some of its greatest heroes. The mystery surrounding the Eternal, and why they have been so insistent on refusing to interfere with previous cataclysmic events in the MCU has already been the source of much debate among fans, something the film will need to answer. However, exactly how they will do it will remain a closely guarded secret. Unless it is, Hayek and his co-stars begin to take lessons on how to protect Tom Holland’s confidentiality.
