Universal Pictures has tried to make this wait more bearable with free screenings of each film in participating theaters on Fridays. Alamo Drafthouse recently announced a 24-hour program Fast and Furious movie marathon to prepare fans F9. The digital event takes place on June 19 and gives fans the opportunity to see the eight main entries in the series. Fast & Furious Gifts: Hobbs & Shaw, and much more. One of the main additions to the lineup is the inclusion of Justin Lin’s 2002 film, Better luck tomorrow, which also stars Sung Kang as Han and serves as a prequel to the fan-favorite character. Fans can purchase access to the screening event on the Alamo website.
The story of Better luck tomorrow follows a group of Asian American students who are bored with their everyday life. This leads them to start a small life of crime, with Han de Kang as the group’s enforcer. Their petty crimes quickly escalate and lead them to become involved in the murder of another teenager. It establishes Han’s future as a criminal, and the Fast and Furious Movies have connected to this backstory in different ways, such as explaining that Han ate frequently is because he smoked when he was younger.
Despite Better luck tomorrowunofficial connection with the Fast and Furious franchise, it is still a very little seen movie. His inclusion in this movie marathon could help change that, even for the most hardcore fans. There is also the possibility that Better luck tomorrow will gain more relevance to the franchise once F9 in launch. Justin Lin is back directing the blockbuster movie and wants to bring #JusticeForHan. This has to include explaining how he’s alive now, but it could also mean referencing other pieces of Han’s backstory that Better luck tomorrow settled down.
