The final trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League has arrived and teases the first real look at Martian Manhunter. After a long and difficult journey, Zack Snyder’s true vision for League of Justice will finally be released on HBO Max. This version of the film will be different from the theatrical versions of 2017 in several respects, including entirely new scenes and additional characters that bring the film to a four-hour runtime.
Among the characters receiving additional screen time is Harry Lennix’s General Swanwick, also known as Martian Manhunter. Although Lennix’s Swanwick has been part of the DCEU since Iron Man, the character’s in-universe trajectory was never fully realized in the theatrical release League of Justice. In Snyder’s original plan for the film, it would be revealed that Swanwick has been the alien and eventual Justice League member Martian Manhunter, even using his abilities to take the form of Martha Kent at one point in the film. However, for the Snyder Cut, the reveal of the Martian Manhunter has been added again, and in this latest trailer, there is a shot that pokes fun at the alien’s transformation.
With the launch of Zack Snyder’s Justice League Just days away, HBO Max has released the final trailer for the film. It includes several moments of new images, including more shots of Darkseid’s invasion of Earth and the Green Lanterns on the scene to defend it. Perhaps the biggest taunt, however, is a quick glance at Martha Kent with her bloodshot eyes, a hint that she is actually a Martian Manhunter in disguise. While only a few have had a chance to see the entire Snyder Cut of League of JusticeMuch of what happens in this version of the film has already been known. Snyder himself shared the storyboards for the scene he originally envisioned as the Martian Manhunter reveal. In it, Martha Kent is visiting Lois Lane and, after saying goodbye, Martha’s eyes briefly glow red before transforming into Martian Manhunter and then General Swanwick, confirming the alien’s presence in the DCEU and hinting that it is has passed through Swanwick for some time.
The scene wasn’t even completed for the 2017 theatrical release of League of Justice and instead it was replaced by a completely different scene between Martha and Lois. Now, however, Snyder’s original scene, as well as his intention to reveal Martian Manhunter, have been restored. For fans of the character who have always hoped to see J’onn J’onzz in live action, the moment is sure to be a treat, although it is unlikely to generate any more appearances, at least not for this version. With the DCEU moving in a new direction, the events of Zack Snyder’s Justice League They are not considered official canon for WB’s upcoming DC movie lineup. Still, this tease could work as a proof of concept, possibly convincing DCEU officials that Martian Manhunter deserves another shot.
