Actress Julia Stiles teased yet another mind-blowing twist for the upcoming prequel Orphan: First death. The long-awaited follow-up to the 2009s Orphan will feature the return of Isabelle Fuhrman as Esther, aka Leena Klammer, an Estonian orphan who uses her ability to look extremely young to her deadly advantage. The original film followed Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard as Kate and John Coleman, a loving couple looking to adopt a young daughter. However, unbeknownst to them, Esther is actually a 33-year-old murderer.
Orphan: First death, which first entered development in 2020, will go back in time and serve as an origin story for Esther. The film will follow her as she escapes from an Estonian psychiatric facility and heads to the United States, entangling another family in her deadly games. Orphan: First deathThe director has touted the movie as brutal and extremely violent and now Stiles has added his own joke ahead of the movie’s release.

In an interview with Collider, the actress says she was hesitant to join the film because she’s not particularly a fan of the horror genre. However, when Stiles read the script, everything changed. The actress says she couldn’t put it down and that the twist really surprised her. Stiles went on to describe the movie as “incredibly psychological, “something she preferred because of her dislike for the typical”blood and gore“in horror movies.
I don’t watch horror movies and when they sent me the script, I was like, ‘I don’t know. I don’t like that genre. ‘ And he was also really worried about going back to work after COVID. And the script was so good that I couldn’t put it down and was so surprised by the twist that I’m not going to reveal that I think you’ll like it.
It is incredibly psychological. I’m not really interested in blood and gore. I find it disgusting, but I don’t find it really scary. What I find terrifying are the things that happen here. And Isabelle Fuhrman’s character, Esther, although she has several names, Leena, I don’t know, she is so fascinating, especially now because she is an adult. She is 23 years old now playing the same role. He’s such a fascinating sociopathic character, along the lines of why Norman Bates was so interesting to watch.
Heading the turn of the original film is a difficult task for Orphan: First death. Arriving at just the right time, Esther revealed that she was a 33-year-old woman while trying to seduce the Patriarch of Sarsgaard. When he threatens to send her back to the orphanage, Esther brutally murders him by stabbing him multiple times. Now that viewers know Esther’s origins and actual age, it will be difficult to come up with a new twist and it may or may not have to do with her character.
Of course, since Orphan: First death is an origin story, the writers might think of something truly cowardly from Esther’s past. On the contrary, if it’s his new adoptive family in this movie, that could end up surprising fans even more. However, one thing is clear: Esther won’t get away easily this time. Fuhrman shared a photo from the set of Orphan: First death featuring her character covered in blood, so even though the Estonian may be younger in this movie, Esther is just as deadly as she was in the original 2009 movie.
