On Twitter, WWE star-turned-Guardians of the Galaxy Dave Bautista joked about being cast by fans as characters with “aesthetic challenges” like Kilowog.
Dave Bautista jokingly complained about fancasts on Twitter. Bautista began as a professional wrestler in WWE with his first season that lasted from 2002 to 2010. During this time, he became known under the name of the ring. “Cambric“and won several WWE championships. Building on his popularity in wrestling, Bautista began acting in 2006 and one of his first prominent movie roles came in 2012 with The man with the iron fists before playing Drax the Destroyer on Guardians of the Galaxy and several other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Bautista to reprise role in Phase 4 film Thor: love and thunder.
Bautista’s most recent role is in Army of the dead, Zack Snyder’s return to the zombie genre 17 years after his directorial debut Dawn of the Dead. A recently released trailer provided a look at Bautista in the role of Scott Ward, along with a stacked supporting cast that includes Ella Purnell, Ana De La Reguera, Garret Dillahunt, Hiroyuki Sanada, and deadpan comedian Tig Notaro. During a recent Justice Con discussion, Bautista spoke about Army of the dead and how the movie doesn’t just focus on “blood and guts and blood. “The Scott Ward actor says that Snyder’s latest movie has more layers than the typical zombie apocalypse movie.
Along with his recent appearance on Justice Con, Baptist He has also been vocal on Twitter, most notably his response to his fancast as the character of Kilowog, a brutal-looking member of the Green Lantern Corps. The fan even did a side-by-side comparison to show just how successful Bautista’s casting would be. This made the actor respond, wondering why he was always typecast as bestial-looking characters. Also in a recent Justice Con panel, Zack Snyder revealed how he originally planned for Kilowog to make an appearance at the end of his League of Justice cut, along with Wayne T. Carr as John Stewart. Although Snyder didn’t mention any casting ideas for Kilowog, Bautista would have been a great choice. He certainly has the body, voice, and demeanor to play the brutal alien. All you would need is some makeup and facial prosthetics. Kilowog was previously voiced by Michael Clarke Duncan in Ryan Reynolds. Green Lantern movie in 2011.
Comic book fans seem to have a certain propensity for fancasting and Bautista has been the subject of many of them since he burst onto the scene in 2014 with Guardians of the Galaxy. Even though he disagrees with some of them, it’s good to see that Bautista is willing to joke around and interact with fans.
