Gunpowder Shake 2 it’s a possibility, according to the film’s director, Navot Papushado. Before Gunpowder shake debuted simultaneously on Netflix and in theaters on July 14, it was reported that a follow-up was already in development on StudioCanal, suggesting that the production company has high hopes for the Karen Gillan-directed film. The first reactions have generated a great deal of publicity, leading many to believe that Gunpowder shake has the potential to be a franchise opener.
With a script by Papushado and Ehud Lavski, both debut in English, Gunpowder shake follows a young hitman named Sam (Gillan) who must team up with his estranged mother Scarlet, played by game of Thrones‘Lena Headey. Michelle Yeoh, Angela Bassett and Carla Gugino round out the cast as members of the sisterhood, a group of murderous women who take on an obscure organization known as The Firm. However, the film’s main conflict revolves around an 8-year-old girl, Emily (Chloe Coleman), who finds herself caught in the middle of gang warfare.
Gunpowder shake features the ruthless crime syndicate known as The Firm, but much of its backstory remains unexplored, leaving the door open for follow-ups or other spin-offs. In an interview with ComicbookPatrick Cavanaugh, director of Navot Papushado, says he has a lot of ideas for a sequel, but wants to gauge audience reactions to the film before committing to anything. Read a part of the interview below:
My whole focus is making sure people see it, love it, and are passionate about it. Even when you write something that’s such an amazing scene but there’s no room for it, instead of forcing it, you say, ‘Okay, let’s put it in the back pocket.’ Then when you start working on [a follow-up], you have so many ideas. Even when you decide there’s no room for that here, you’re like, ‘Okay, let’s put it aside.’ Actually, if people are going to like it as much as I hope, there are screens and cinemas and wherever they can see it, I think there are already enough ideas to get things moving.
Papushado does not seem at all against the idea of a sequel, although he still did not seem willing to commit. Gunpowder shakeThe highly stylized and hyper-violent action has generated many comparisons with John wick, along with his underground world of assassins. Not only did the Keanu Reeves-directed film get a sequel, it has proven to be a wildly successful franchise, and has also made movies like Atomic blonde Y No one possible.
With a quarter Wick delivery on the way, it is not unlikely that Gunpowder shake I could follow in their footsteps. His ending doesn’t directly set up a sequel, but there are still numerous avenues he could take a look at, such as future conflicts between the brotherhood and The Firm or Sam seeking greater revenge against those who killed his father. Gunpowder shake introduces an intricate mythology that could easily be expanded upon in later installments.
