Between In the heights and Steven Spielberg West Side Story remake, 2021 promises to make up for the lack of traditional music movies that were produced last year. Both films were supposed to debut in 2020, but now they can help usher in a brighter future after the pandemic. In the heightsespecially since it will kick off a delayed summer movie season. The musical’s events take place on a handful of scorching summer days, so it’s only fitting that it opens in June. The last look at In the heights put the focus on the big dance numbers, with the aforementioned “Carnaval del Barrio” really taking center stage.
Next to the colorful and boisterous showstoppers in the newest In the heights The trailer is a theme that is very prominent within the musical: Dreams. It’s clear that Chu has chosen to take an almost fantastic approach to certain numbers, as seen in moments like when Benny and her crush / childhood friend Nina (Leslie Grace) dance down the side of buildings. Hopefully the finished product will live up to the vibrancy of the trailers.
