Indiana Jones 5 Set Photos Tease Young Harrison Ford Flashback

With production on Indiana Jones 5 underway, photos from the set reveal that the film can use CGI to present a scene with a digitally aged Harrison Ford.

Indiana Jones 5 It may contain a flashback with a younger version of the title character, based on new photos from the set. After much delay, production on the fifth and final Indiana Jones film is finally underway just as the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Raiders of the lost ark hits. James Mangold is set to direct the film and will see Harrison Ford return as the world-famous archaeologist.

Like the previous movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the filmmakers have been very secretive about the information that is released about the latest film. Currently, all fans know about the film is that actors such as Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, and Shaunette Renée Wilson have joined the cast in unspecified roles. By the time the film opens in theaters in 2022, Ford will be 80 years old, which means there will be a time jump for the character.

However, recent photos from the set may hint at a scene in the film that features a younger version of Indiana Jones. New photos of the set discovered by The Daily Mail show that while filming on The North Yorkshire Moors, a stunt stunt double was seen wearing a younger Harrison Ford mask. The discovered vehicle featured a Nazi steam engine, suggesting that the scene takes place during WWII.

The idea of Disney and Lucasfilm featuring an aging Indiana Jones is not out of the question. Beginning with Tron: Legacy, Disney began experimenting with the digital aging of its actors to portray younger incarnations of its characters. They implemented the technology for a younger version of Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and many movies in the MCU, like Ant-Man and the Wasp Y Captain Marvel, also used this technology. More recently, it allowed Mark Hamill to reprise his role as Luke Skywalker by looking like he did in Return of the Jedi in the season 2 finale of The mandalorian.

The scene being filmed could very much be the opening of the movie, calling back to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade opening on a young Indiana Jones (there played by River Phoenix). Now a younger version of Indiana Jones is the character in the original movie trilogy, and the adventure Indiana Jones finds himself in could set the main plot of the film in motion. With Indiana Jones 5 Slated to be the last film in the franchise, a flashback sequence featuring the version of the character fighting the Nazis is a good note to remind audiences how far the franchise has come and what the future holds.
