James Gunn Restates Yondu Will Not Return in Guardians of the Galaxy 3

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 screenwriter and director James Gunn says again that Michael Rooker’s Yondu is truly dead and won’t be back.

James Gunn Says Again Michael Rooker’s Yondu Will Not Return In Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Writer and director Gunn brought Marvel’s bizarre comic book ownership of a team of misfits from outer space to the big screen in 2014. The result was a surprise blockbuster that grossed $ 772 million worldwide and resulted in the sequel to 2017. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Characters from Guardians The movies would also become major leads in other Marvel movies.

Given the enormous popularity of Guardians of the Galaxy and its motley crew of savvy space mercenaries, it’s no wonder characters keep coming back in future MCU movies. In fact, it seems that some of them will return, at least in cameos, in the next Thor: love and thunder. And of course, Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon and company will also appear on the screens again in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, written and directed again by Gunn (after he was briefly fired from Disney for old tweets). Little is known about the third Guardians movie, but Gunn has offered up some tantalizing data. For starters, Gunn says that Adult Groot will not be returning for the third volume of the series. Additionally, Gunn has rejected rumors that Marvel has started casting Adam Warlock for the film (Seth Rogen recently added his name to the mix if Warlock is ready to appear in the film). Guardians 3).

Now Gunn has offered another definitive statement knocking down fan speculation about the character lineup for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. On Twitter, the screenwriter and director stated that Rooker’s Yondu will not be resurrected for the film. “As I said before, Yondu is dead and will remain dead as long as I am involved with the Guardians., ” Gunn explained. “His death means something to people and I am not going to diminish that.. “See Gunn’s tweet on the subject in the space below:

Yondu, of course, was a central figure in the previous two Guardians of the Galaxy Movie (s. In the first movie, he was revealed to be the Ravager who originally kidnapped young earthling Peter Quill. In the second movie, he passed the good guys’ side when he was driven out by the Ravagers, eventually sacrificing himself during the battle with the Quill’s father, Ego. The film ended with a poignant funeral scene for the redeemed character. Despite Yondu’s seemingly final death, it has been speculated that he might return, some of it spurred on by Rooker himself.

While it would certainly be fun to see Rooker again in blue as Yondu, Gunn’s point about not cheapening the character’s death is well taken. The MCU has certainly done its fair share of resurrecting over the years and indeed, these resurrections can sometimes be very powerful. But on the other hand, sometimes it’s better from a storytelling point of view to let a character really go away. At the end of the day, Yondu served his purpose in the first two movies and brought him back to Guardians of the Galaxy 3 it would be a totally useless and possibly insulting move. Gunn certainly has better ideas for the movie than engaging in dodgy stunts designed to bring back fan-favorite characters whose stories have already been told.
