A new photo from an undisclosed Marvel shoot hints at the return of Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (or Val, as they call her). The character first appeared on the Disney + series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where she revealed herself to be an agent of a secret government organization with an interest in sourcing superheroes for their uses. She was originally scheduled to appear in Black widow for the first time, but Covid-19 delays made it appear to begin with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Val is a mysterious character from the Marvel comics, having ties to everything from SHIELD to Hydra and beyond, Val has deep roots within the underground Marvel community. Her relationship with Nick Fury is well known and she has become a triple agent multiple times, making her one of the darkest characters in comics. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s performance is similar in the way that no one seems to know which side she’s really on.
Val’s last appearance was in the end credits of Black widow where he revealed to Yelena Belova that Clint Barton was responsible for Natasha’s death. Now, a new photo of a Marvel project has appeared via Louis-Dreyfus’ makeup artist on Instagram (shared via Bishop of XRealm on Twitter), which shows the actress on set in Atlanta, GA, surrounded by green screens. It’s unclear what project he’s working on, though it was revealed to be “Marvel” in the comments. It is possible that it could be by Hawkeye, as well as for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, who have filmed or are filming in the area. Check out the set photo below:
Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ makeup artist posted this on her Instagram account a few days ago and it looks like Val could appear in a Marvel production. I’m leaning more towards #PantherBlackWakandaForever since it’s in production right now in Atlanta and it makes the most sense. pic.twitter.com/MnHtr76xJV

Louis-Dreyfus has had a solid career, which began with the sitcom Seinfeld, where she played Elaine. From there, he has done a great deal of voice work for film / television, including The life of a bug and Ahead. The actress made waves again with two most popular shows, The New Adventures of Old Christine and Veep, which was a multi-season Emmy winner. Now, Louis-Dreyfus is tossing his hat to the superhero genre with the role of Val, which Kevin Feige has said would be substantial.
With Nick Fury tied up in space, it makes sense that they have a counterpart to fill that void on Earth. Introducing Val brings some mystery behind the scenes again, especially since his real intentions are unknown. On Black widow and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier she seems to be pulling the strings to make things happen, but no one knows what the point is. Either way, Julia Louis-Dreyfus brings a fun and grim character to the role that fans are sure to see more of, whether in Hawkeye, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever or wherever it stops next.
