Midsommar Director Making Horror Film With Pulitzer Prize-Winning Writer

Ari Aster, best known for directing Midsommar and Hereditary, has teamed up with playwright Michael R. Jackson for an upcoming horror movie.

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Michael R. Jackson is set to work with legendary director Ari Aster on a new A24 horror movie. A24 and Aster have joined forces in the past to bring some truly disturbing movies to the big screen, including those from 2018. Hereditary and 2019 Midsummer. Jackson is best known for his acclaimed Off-Broadway production, A strange loop. He earned the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the New York City Drama Critics Circle Award for his work, quickly making him one of the most desirable screenwriters in the industry.

In a report from Term, It was revealed that Jackson sold an original horror feature film release to A24. Aster and Lars Knudsen will produce the film under their company, Square Peg. According to experts, the project is still in early development. At the moment, the title and the release date are unknown.

Aster is responsible for creating some of the most vivid, gory, and groundbreaking moments in horror movies. His next movie Deception Blvd, was announced earlier this year and will reportedly star Joaquin Phoenix. It’s unclear if this is the project Aster teased earlier in a November 2020 interview, or a different one entirely. The director reportedly has several scripts that he was considering for his next film, including one based on his 2011 short film. Beau is scared.

As for Jackson, the upcoming horror movie isn’t the only production he’s working on either. The writer is also developing a new musical titled White girl in danger. It will be interesting to see what the combined efforts of an accomplished playwright and a distinct voice in the horror genre will create in the upcoming feature. Regardless, the untitled project is sure to terrify audiences with graphic scenes, haunted characters, and a haunting score that fans of Aster’s work have come to expect.
