The long-awaited R-rated adaptation of the video game franchise opens in theaters and on HBO Max on April 23. With Lewis Tan in the title role as new fighter Cole Young, Mortal KombatThe goal is to be the best fighting movie ever made. So far, all of the revealed stills and footage from the film show epic fighting action.
But much of the plot remains unknown, aside from the fact that the battle between Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim) and Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) dates back hundreds of years and forms the heart of the film. Beyond that, little is known about the film’s key fights and who appears in them. There is also the question of Cole Young’s true identity, which has been speculated on, and many believe that he is the new Scorpion, although nothing has been confirmed. But some of those details may have been inadvertently revealed by the Mortal Kombat soundtrack song list, revealed ahead of its release.
The soundtrack, which includes a new score by Benjamin Wallfisch, will be released on April 16 by WaterTower Music. The first song on the soundtrack, a new updated version of the iconic 1995 techno track. Mortal Kombat movie, will certainly satisfy fans who were disappointed that it wasn’t included in the first trailer for the movie. In addition to including an epic remake of the classic techno theme, with the screams of “Mortal Kombat” as well as the list of character names as in the original, the track list is full of spoilers. The most relevant are probably track 9, “Kano v Reptile”, which confirms that the creature seen in the trailer is indeed the classic. Mortal Kombat Combat reptile. But the real spoilers seem to be the titles of track 21, “Sub-Zero v Cole Young” and track 22, “I Am Scorpion.”
Track 22 confirms that Sub-Zero and Cole face off closely Mortal Kombat climax, which hints that Young somehow descends from Scorpion, Sub-Zero’s traditional rival. As if that wasn’t enough, clue 23 could reveal that Cole is, in fact, Scorpion. Of course, he could be referring to Hanzo Hasashi, the version of Scorpion played by Sanada, but the fact that he comes after Cole fights Sub-Zero could be an indication that he discovers his hidden powers during the battle. All the clues that follow refer to Scorpion as well, so there is strong evidence for the theory. The public will know when Mortal Kombat premieres on April 23.
