Nicolas Cage will star in an upcoming western, titled The old way. Cage has become a household name in the years since he began acting in the 1980s. The actor has starred in a variety of projects over the years, including the one in 1995. Leaving Vegas, which earned him his first Academy Award. Despite the dozens of movies he’s been in, Cage has never starred in a western.
THR confirmed Cage’s upcoming lead role, also reporting that The old way targets the film market in Toronto. The prolific actor will play Colton Briggs, a gunman turned general store manager who lives a quiet life with his family. When his wife is murdered by a gang of outlaws, Briggs re-saddles himself to seek revenge alongside his 12-year-old daughter. As Cage mentions in his press quote, The old way It is not the only western genre project of the actor in the works. In June it was announced that Cage would star in Butchers Crossing, an adaptation of John Williams’ novel about a Harvard dropout venturing West in the 1870s. Cage will film both projects in Montana.
The old way will be directed by Brett Donowho, who directed the Acts of violence. The script was written by Carl W. Lucas. Donowho expressed his enthusiasm for working with Cage, whom he called a “consummate professional.” He said, “It is an honor and a privilege to work with Nic on the first western of his illustrious career.“There is no release date yet for The old way.
