Less than two weeks before James Gunn Suicide squad lands in theaters, fan excitement is at an all-time high and has naturally led to a number of fan art being produced ahead of time, including one fitting DC’s dark villain Condiment King in the movie. A pseudo-reboot / sequel to David Ayer Suicide squad since 2016, Suicide squad see Viola Davis’s Amanda Waller reform Task Force X with a host of new supervillains, alongside Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag, and Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang from the first film, to embark on a dangerous mission of covert operations.
Originally created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm for Batman: The Animated Series, Condiment King was designed as a whimsical and colorful throwback to the campy bat Man 1966 series starring Adam West. A supervillain who uses seasoning-based weapons, usually ketchup and mustard, Condiment King has a penchant for seasoning-based puns, like claiming he knew Batman would make ‘ketchup’ sooner or later. The character is generally treated as a joke within DC comics, and has even appeared in The Lego Batman Movie and more recently in the anime Harley quinn series in which Alan Tudyk voiced him and described him as Kite-Man’s arch nemesis.
The fan poster, designed by a digital artist SPDRMNKYXXIII, features King Seasoning in a character poster similar to those released for the various members of Suicide squad with an explosion of hamburgers and hot dogs behind him. The poster features comedian and Comicbook host Chris Killian in cosplay as the “Prince of pickles ” Y “Sultan of Salsa”. Killian also shared the poster on his Twitter tagging Gunn, asking: “Too late to shoot another post credits scene?” Check out the poster below:
The artist has also previously worked on various pieces of fan-art, including one featuring Michael B. Jordan as Superman in regards to his announcement that he is developing a series based on Val-Zod, and another with Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield. and Tom Holland’s versions of Spider-Man before Spider-Man: No way home. However, it is his close replica of the style of Suicide squad character posters that mark this as a particular place, so much so that even Gunn liked the poster when Killian shared it on Twitter.
Considering Gunn’s use of the Z-list supervillains in the movie, including Polka-Dot Man, Javelin, and Savant, it’s surprising there weren’t any more calls for Condiment King to make an appearance. Some might think that Condiment King would be a step too much towards the ridiculous, although considering the recent clip that was released with Nathan Fillion’s The Detachable Kid (TDK), the character would definitely fit the movie perfectly. The character’s self-aggrandizing personality certainly matches Gunn’s movie’s exaggerated tone, as well as The Thinker’s lament of Suicide squad green band trailer in which the supervillains live their life as a joke.
While little is currently known about who will make it out of the movie alive, or if there are even plans for a third Suicide Squad movie, it would certainly be entertaining to see Condiment King potentially make an appearance in the future, if only for the comedy. value. Initial reactions to Suicide squad have been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising their action and showmanship, but fans will just have to wait to judge how well these Z-list supervillains do in their mission to save the world when Suicide squad launches August 6.
