Bohemian Rhapsody made its debut in 2018. The biopic traced the life of famous Queen singer Freddie Mercury, exploring his music and sexuality. Now in a conversation with ABC Audio (via GMA), Isaac reveals that he was offered the opportunity to play Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody but it happened. The 42-year-old confessed that he didn’t think the public would be interested in seeing a Mercury biopic. However, he was quickly proven wrong, as the film grossed more than $ 900 million at the box office. Recently, rumors have circulated about a possible sequel to the 2018 hit. Although no narrative has been shared, Queen’s bandmate Brian May confirmed that ideas for a follow-up film were being considered. How or if Malek could return at any Bohemian Rhapsody the sequel is up for debate. The original film concluded during Queen’s iconic Live Aid performance, just a few years before Mercury’s death in 1991. Whether a sequel would document the years before his death or follow the band afterward remains a speculative mystery.
Isaac certainly had a busy roster of his own in 2018, appearing in titles like Annihilation, Life itself and expressing in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)However, it seems unlikely that he was not a little disappointed to witness the success of Bohemian Rhapsody. Although, as Isaac said, there would have been no guarantee that he would have defended Mercury’s role as Malek, the opportunity surely would have been attractive in hindsight. Regardless, Isaac perhaps sees little reason to dwell on past job openings.
