Paramount images has appointed a new CEO, one who is reportedly prioritizing films for Paramount + over theatrical distribution. Former Nickelodeon CEO Brian Robbins will replace former CEO Jim Gianopulos, who joined the studio in 2017. Gianopulos inherited a studio that had a rough couple of years after Dinsey acquired Marvel and Dreamworks Animation and moved to 20th Century. Fox., And in 2016 had high-profile box office disappointments such as Star Trek beyond, Ben-Hur, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.
The studio began to rebound with new franchises such as A peaceful place and Sonic the HedgehogBut the COVID-19 pandemic sent the studio rushing to release movies. While the study was highly successful with the release of A quiet place, part II, the studio sold many high-profile movies to various streaming services such as Chicago 7 Trail to Netflix and The war of tomorrow to Amazon. According to THRBrian Robbinson will take over as CEO at Paramount Pictures in part because of his experience working with youth-oriented projects and the demands of the streaming age. Robbinson has yet to work with top talents like Tom Cruise and John Krasinski, as most of his productions have been modest-sized budgeted images that were remakes, comedies, or cross-branded material. Paramount Pictures will reportedly cancel their theatrical production roster and focus more on their streaming releases for Paramount +.
Interestingly, Paramount has developed a tendency to develop an animated, live-action version of its properties. Weather Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is scheduled for release on June 23, 2021, the studio also has an animated film focusing on the origins of Cybertron from Toy story 4 director Josh Cooley.
