Scream 2022 co-director Tyler Gillett has teased the possibility of future sequels in the famous horror franchise. With just over two months to go until the fifth installment in the series arrives, not much is known yet about what awaits fans. The sequel comes more than a decade after the previous entry, and with the death of series creator Wes Craven in 2015, many fans feared that Scream it had finally come to an end, 19 years after its beginning.
However, the idea of continuing the franchise without Craven initially wasn’t such a popular solution for some. Fans are always particularly protective of the franchises they love, and in the case of going ahead with a fifth ScreamEven some of the series’ most beloved characters weren’t sure they wanted to do more without Craven. This issue was key to Scream 2022 Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett. After assuring fans and key cast members that this was a project that was intended to honor everything Craven had established in the series while pushing things forward, the new movie became a reality. Now, a decade after Craven first stated that Shout 5 it would happen, it’s just around the corner.
But while people wait to see how good the work is, the first Scream If a film not directed by Craven, it appears that Gillett already has the film to power future sequels. Although not directly confirmed by the filmmaker, in a new interview with Total movie [h/t Hello Sidney], Gillett spoke about the quality of Scream The 2022 script and how it justifies more Scream stories thanks to his “marvelous“characters. Insisting that there are”more gas in the tankRegarding the future of the franchise, Gillett stated:
“This new cast of characters is wonderful. The cast of Legacy, they are so wonderful. I believe that what we discovered and what [screenwriters] Guy [Busick] and James [Vanderbilt] did, is that they found a real reason for the next story to exist. We know there is more gasoline in the tank. There are more stories to tell in Woodsboro, and about these characters, for sure. “
It’s hard to imagine what could happen in the latest movie not only to justify more sequels, but also to merit the proclamation that there are more stories to tell. Fans of the Scream franchise know that every sequel after 1996 Scream it wasn’t exactly justified – the whole series could have come to an end after that first movie, with the bigger questions answered. But what has he done Scream Thriving all these years has possibly been his ability to have fun and, at the same time, keep audiences on the edge. None of the aftermath to date has provided essential information that had not previously been clarified. In this way, the franchise has always felt more as if its goal was to find new reasons to exist.
If anything, Scream 2022 manages to create something outside of the franchise that takes it all to a new level, then fans could be in for a real treat. Judging by everything that has been reported to date about the film, the goal is just that. How can you do that without rebooting the whole concept of the original? Scream It’s hard to imagine, but clearly Busick and Vanderbilt have focused on that specific goal with this latest entry.
