Spiral Director Wants To Reboot Leprechaun, Lionsgate Doesn’t Believe Him

Spiral’s Darren Lynn Bousman says he’s spent years trying to convince Lionsgate to let him reboot Leprechaun, but they don’t seem to believe him.

The Elf franchise is a horror / comedy film series that began with the original Elf in 1993, it featured Warwick Davis as the title character alongside the then-unknown Jennifer Aniston. The series currently has eight films, which were criticized by critics, leading to four of the films having 0% on Rotten tomatoes.

Bousman knows his way through the world of horror, having directed four saw movies and various others, such as Mother’s Day. However, this makes it seem like a good candidate for rebooting. saw franchise, his films have not had much success with the critics or with a wide audience. During the last few weeks, Spiral has helped bring the saw franchise to more than one billion dollars worldwide. However, it still doesn’t bring in the box office numbers the studio was hoping for, which may affect Bousman’s future projects if the studio no longer takes him seriously.

While talking to Comicbook, Bousman spoke about how the studio doesn’t believe him when he mentions it, saying: “I think they think I’m fucking with them.“He first approached them to restart Elf while working on Sierra II, indicating, “I was 24, now I’m 42 and I’m still talking about it.“With a passion for the project that spans almost twenty years, it is clear that Bousman takes the approach very seriously Elfeven if you can’t convince the studio.
