The Toxic Avenger Casts Kevin Bacon As Villain Opposite Peter Dinklage

Legendary’s reboot of the cult classic The Toxic Avenger has cast Kevin Bacon as the villain who will take on Peter Dinklage’s hero.

The next reboot of The Toxic Avenger has found its new baddie in the form of screen legend Kevin Bacon. Based on the 1984 low-budget film from independent house Schlock Troma Entertainment, The Toxic Avenger is a dark comedy that follows the story of a janitor who falls into a drum of toxic waste, horribly disfiguring but also giving him superhuman size and strength. While it went almost completely unnoticed when it first released, it eventually grew into a cult following and became Troma’s most successful film, inspiring three sequels, a musical, and an animated series.

Word of a Toxic Avenger A major studio remake had been around since 2010, and in 2013, Arnold Schwarzenegger was even in talks for a role. In 2018, Legendary Pictures announced that they had acquired the rights to remake the film, and Macon Blair was chosen to write and direct. At the end of last year, Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage signed on as the film’s titular hero alongside Taylour Paige. And earlier this month, rumors began to circulate that Lord of the Rings’ Elijah Woods was also set to join the cast as the main villain. However, that rumor does not appear to have come true.

According to a new report from THR, Dinklage’s Toxic Avenger has found his nemesis in the form of Kevin Bacon. While details on Bacon’s role are scant, if the reboot follows the plot of the original film, it could be that of the city’s corrupt mayor whose criminal activities are threatened by Toxic Avenger’s crime-fighting escapades. According to THR, filming is scheduled to begin in Bulgaria later this month.

Peter Dinklage to star in Toxic Avenger reboot

With Bacon’s extensive film credits of more than 70 movies and 24 television appearances, this latest role is certainly not his first taste of villainy. Over the years, Bacon has played various bad guys, including Sebastian Shaw, aka Dr. Klaus Schmidt, in 2011. X Men First generation. Bacon certainly has the experience and comedic skills to make Dinklage’s Toxic Avenger run for his money.

While Bacon’s extensive career has seen him work on some critically acclaimed dishes with some of the world’s most famous directors, such as Clint Eastwood and Ron Howard, he is also no stranger to working on much stranger and less serious films. His film career not only began with National Lampoon Animal House, but he was also the main star of the 1990 horror comedy Tremors. Fans of The Toxic Avenger you can rest easy knowing that Bacon will undoubtedly bring his enormous experience to bear on the new reboot.
