Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings.
Where exactly where were the Avengers during the events of Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings? The MCU’s 25th film and its first Asian-directed film, Shang-chi it’s very much the actual beginning of the Phase 4 movies. It introduces new characters and key worlds, setting up elements that will likely come back into play in several upcoming Marvel movies.
Shang-chiFor the most part, the story is isolated save for references iron Man 3 and a couple of cameos (most notably Wong and Abomination in the movie proper), but it raises questions about the Avengers. With the Dweller-in-Darkness emerging as a threat not only to Ta Lo but also to the fate of the MCU’s main dimension, then again there is a major force that the Avengers would be useful to deal with, not to mention danger from the Ten. Rings present. Similarly, Wong’s presence at key moments in the film leads to a discussion about where Doctor Strange is during Shang-chi, and with that where are other team members.
First of all, there is Shang-chithe timeline to consider, which places the movie after Avengers Endgame, although it does not specify exactly how much time has passed. At the very least, that means Iron Man and Black Widow are dead at this point, while Captain America is also missing (either in hiding, in an alternate timeline, having passed away, or, as some believe, on the moon). . Scarlet Witch might still be isolated at this next point WandaVisionAfter the credits, Hawkeye’s show could reveal what happened to Clint Barton, and presumably Thor is still with the Guardians of the Galaxy. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier revealed that his eponymous heroes were doing their thing, though again it’s unclear if this is before or after that, but it’s likely on a similar and rough timeline.
Nevertheless, Shang-chiThe mid-credits scene reveals at least two Avengers, with the appearance of Bruce Banner (notably no longer the Smart Hulk) and Captain Marvel. It doesn’t quite reveal too much, but it’s not an unreasonable assumption that Banner’s transformation will be explained in She hulkand that the emergency of Carol Danvers The wonders. In terms of what they’ve been up to before Shang-chicredits, so at least a portion has been spent examining the Ten Rings, which are said to be neither vibranium nor any recognizable alien technology. This confirms that some form of Avengers team is still active, though it’s more like the version led by Black Widow in Game over, with some scattered updates and communications rather than looking like a fully functional unit at the moment.
Wong’s recurring presence in Shang-chi It also suggests that he may also be an Avenger now as he is working closely with Bruce and Carol and is the one bringing Shang-Chi and Katy into the fold. If so, then it explains the whereabouts of an Avenger, with Wong spending his free time fighting the Abomination and also investigating the Ten Rings. As for where Doctor Strange is at this point, he’s also deliberately vague – he could be with Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, or some other kind of multiversal insanity. It is also worth noting that much of Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten ringsThe most important events occur in an alternate dimension. Since they are not actually on Earth, presumably the most powerful Heroes on the planet are unaware of what is happening in Ta Lo, they are only alerted when the Ten Rings start sending a beacon that reaches Kamar -Taj.
Even if Wong isn’t an official member of the team yet, there is an Avenger in the movie before his mid-credits cameos, and that’s the character of the same name. Marvel has referred to Shang-Chi as “a new Avenger”, which probably means that it is now supposed to be considered a real part of the list. That bodes well for his future, with plenty of places he could show up afterward. Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings, including a possible Shang-chi 2, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Insanity, and Avengers 5 whenever it happens.
