Zack Snyder reveals that he released a Justice League spinoff movie for Ryan Choi, aka Atom, to Warner Bros. as part of his plans for the DCEU.
TO Zack Snyder’s Justice League The spinoff movie starring Atom was submitted to Warner Bros. by the director. More than three years after a version of League of Justice which was heavily re-filmed by the studio and Joss Whedon hit theaters, fans around the world finally have access to see the legendary Snyder Cut. The four-hour R-rated superhero blockbuster airs on HBO Max and fully restores Snyder’s original vision for League of Justice and is added with new scenes featuring Jared Leto’s Joker and more.
The launch of Zack Snyder’s Justice League It gives fans a glimpse of what might have been if the director hadn’t left the DC Extended Universe. The movie is the third entry in a five-movie arc that Snyder has long envisioned. These plans changed over time as individual movie stories changed and the DCEU roster grew to include solo Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg movies. All of these movies would have originally fit into the overall story Snyder had planned, and he wanted to do a lot more. This includes the idea of a solo movie for Atom.
In a new interview with THAT, Zack Snyder talked about the end of Zack Snyder’s Justice League and what he had previously planned for the DCEU beyond. This included questions about other DC heroes who might have dressed up in future installments. One of them scoffed Zack Snyder’s Justice League is Ryan Choi, aka Atom, played by Ryan Zheng. According to Snyder, he even proposed to Warner Bros. to make an Atom spin-off after League of Justice.
He had been asking Warner to make an Atom movie with him in China, like a Chinese cast superhero movie. That was my goal.
Ryan Choi is one of the many characters added again in Zack Snyder’s Justice League who were cut from the 2017 theatrical montage. He has a supporting role in the film as a member of STAR Labs and is an expert in nanotechnology. The movie makes no direct reference to him working in a suit that can change his size, but his presence alone is enough to cause that he could have become a hero in the near future. It’s unclear exactly when Snyder started talking to WB about creating AtomBut the discussions don’t seem to have generated much traction as no writer, director, or plans for the film have ever been rumored before.
If Snyder had his way and Atom it was done, it could have become Hollywood’s first major superhero movie with a Chinese leading man. Marvel Studios is set to break that barrier later this year with the release of Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings. Still, it would have been intriguing to see what the story of Atom it could have been converted and how the movie tied into Snyder’s larger plans. Ryan Choi going to China is a very different path than the one he mocks at the end of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. With Snyder probably planning to use the Atom in the future League of Justice Aftermath, a solo movie would have been a great way to develop the character and his powers in front of him fighting alongside the rest of the League.
