The first reactions to Zack Snyder’s Justice League are here; Find out what fans and critics are saying about the long-awaited movie from the DC team.
Update: Since posting, the social media embargo has been lifted for critics as well, and they mostly agree with previous fan reactions.
Early reactions to Zack Snyder’s Justice League has arrived. Snyder’s version of the DC superhero team movie has had a long and difficult road to release in just a few days. The director received the keys to DC’s cinematic future when he rebooted Superman in 2013. Iron Man. That movie and its sequel, Batman V Superman: Dawn of JusticeThey were critically divisive and fell short of Warner Bros. ‘box office expectations.
Snyder would eventually part ways with the studio during the production of League of Justice amid creative clashes and a family tragedy. Avengers Director Joss Whedon was hired to rewrite and re-shoot much of the film, creating a very different film than the one Snyder had intended. That version of the film, released in 2017, was a box office and critical failure, arguably the biggest failure of the DC Extended Universe. Spurred on by a massive fan campaign on social media, HBO Max decided to let Snyder finish his version of the film, which is a four-hour epic that promises a decidedly different take on DC superheroes.
With the lifting of the embargo on social media, reactions from fans and critics to the film are starting to pour in. Check them out below.
the #SnyderCut It’s everything fans expected (maybe more). However, it is true: it has a lighter tone. The DC team blockbuster we’ve been waiting for. It still has moments of heart and character. I cried several times. Oh, Snyder has a pair. #RestoreTheSnyderVerse @hbomax @snydercut

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a roller coaster of emotions.
A story about how to be united and help each other reach their potential. Every hero shines everywhere. A perfect balance of heart and humor.

I just watched Zack Snyder’s Justice League … Wow! I really liked that movie. The theme of family prevailed throughout. A strong message about the bond between parents and children. He connected with me on an emotional level. #SnyderCut

Zack Snyders Justice League is an epic film that explores all the stories and difficulties of the leagues and brings them together seamlessly. It allows the audience to feel the seriousness of the events, the difficulties, the defeat, the joy and I dare to say humor perfectly.

This movie was amazing on every level. Definitely a Cyborg-centric movie. I loved Ray Fisher’s performance! #BORGLIFE
It was legit. I also want Junkie XL to compose a score for my life. I can’t wait to hear the score later this week! #SnyderCut

The movie is not dark and depressing as people expect, it is lighter than BvS. The members of the Justice League have good chemistry and it doesn’t feel forced at all. pic.twitter.com/PC1jH0CuTg

#ZackSnydersJusticeLeague It is a masterpiece that gave me goosebumps from start to finish. The whole time I couldn’t believe the things they left out. And it’s crazy how important Cyborg is to the main story in this, he really is the heart of the movie.

Since the social embargo was lifted, critics can now share their reactions too.
I watched #ZackSnydersJusticeLeague In the past week. It made me wish there was a JL trilogy and a plan for the larger universe, where this Aquaman and this Wonder Woman are better in sync with the solo movies, where Cyborg gets his due, etc. It is long but also too short in that sense.

#ZackSnydersJusticeLeague: At 4 hours long, the movie is an improvement, has room to breathe, and gives plenty of time for the characters’ backstory. It’s pretty much the same story as the theatrical version though, it’s still a great vision and, well, 4 hours long.

If you don’t believe that #ZackSnydersJusticeLeague it is a totally different movie compared to the theatrical version, you are wrong.
I estimate that maybe 25% of the plays (the best parts) were filmed by Zack. Maybe 12% of the Snyder Cut is something you may have seen before. pic.twitter.com/7ESlNHPIsL

#ZackSnydersJusticeLeague it was everything a DC fan could wish for 🤯
Having extended the movie, it not only allows you to delve deeper into the history of the league, but also that of Steppenwolf. It feels like a full movie and I enjoyed every minute ⚡️ I REALLY want a sequel. pic.twitter.com/uuPHnucWML

#JusticeLeagueSnyderCut It is a cut montage with finished effects. It’s the same main movie we saw in 2017 with two hours of deleted scenes and some slightly modified versions of existing beats. Two reasons to watch: The climax of the action is much better, and Cyborg gets the well-deserved spotlight. pic.twitter.com/bUSmiJwccT

Early reactions suggest that HBO Now may have a hit on your hands. Many point out that the film is lighter in tone than Snyder’s other DC movies, and that Cyborg, who was largely removed from the stage version, is at the heart of the film’s story. Many also note that Junkie XL’s new score is superior to Danny Elfman’s hodgepodge of different eras in the theatrical cut. Fans have noted the surprisingly emotional resonance of the film and how the characters organically interact with each other.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League does not appear to be a universal critical success: Snyder is, by his very nature, a divisive filmmaker. However, the fact that fans and professional critics seem to be on the same page is a good sign. With that said, the first few pointers are promising, as the movie seemingly solves many of the problems some fans had with Snyder’s previous interpretations of the DC Universe. The DC Extended Universe is likely to move away from this version of its heroes soon, but if this is the latest hooray for Zack Snyder’s vision of the DC Universe, the first hints are that he is going to come out strong.
